Student Life at King's Children's Center
King's Full-Day Preschool is a great place to be! If you're wondering what a visit to the King's Children's Center would look like, let me share with you a glimpse into our day.
Some children arrive early as their parents begin their working day. The children start their day with Ms. Barbara, who has been cheerfully welcoming students at King's Preschool for the past twenty years. They come in and may finish eating their breakfast, create an art project with Ms. Barbara, read books, or play in the home center. They also enjoy time playing in the large indoor gym or on the playground.
At 8:30 a.m., our preschool day begins as each child is guided to their classroom and greeted by their teachers. You might find our younger children starting their day with circle time, discussing the weather, the calendar, or the letter of the week. Our Pre-Kindergarten students might be picking jobs, practicing letters or listening to the morning Bible story. Mornings are filled with much excitement and learning as children enjoy lessons and learning activities based on the curriculum and themes for each month. On any given morning, you will observe children engaging in learning through play in the various interest areas in the classrooms, gaining physical exercise outside on our playground, and enjoying delicious snacks. You will also see our dedicated, nurturing, and professional teachers consistently observing children, creating and leading small/large group activities, guiding children's social interactions, and communicating with parents.
On Tuesday mornings, you will see children eager to take their monthly walk to the elementary school library or visiting the "grandmas and grandpas" on the CRISTA campus. On Wednesday mornings, everyone gathers together in our large gym for an all-school chapel time. The preschoolers enjoy singing songs, learning the memory verse for the month, and listening to speakers from the community. Once a month, each classroom takes a turn leading chapel by sharing a song or acting out a Bible story.
After a busy morning, the children are ready for a delicious lunch, a good story, and rest. The preschool day resumes after rest time with a healthy snack and introduction to one of our afternoon activities. Each class is designed to relate to the theme of the month and enrich a child's learning experience.
Our busy preschool day ends at 3:30 p.m. Children needing to stay a little longer will enjoy extra playtime, additional opportunities for art, books, games, and a late afternoon snack... then off to home.
We are thankful for each day and are blessed to have teachers, staff, and families working together to "inspire the hearts and minds" of the littlest of King's students.
Children's Center Program
Our classrooms and daily activities are structured for success! The following materials and centers can be found in each of our classrooms, with each center carefully planned with your child's growth and development in mind.
Art/Writing Center
A variety of art and writing materials are provided at this center, allowing children to manipulate objects and explore their creativity. This center is designed to give children the opportunity to develop, create, process, and work through their own plans and ideas.
Hardwood Block Center
Children have the opportunity to construct and create while they explore basic math concepts such as shapes and spatial representation, measurement, problem solving, and self-help skills.
Science/Math/Discovery Center
Children learn how to investigate and explore their natural environment by examining various objects found on nature walks or items introduced by the teacher to enrich their learning. Cooking projects and science experiments provide an interactive and hands-on approach to learning about nutrition, chemistry, and measurements.
Dramatic Play Center
At this center, children are able to take on different roles and recreate real-life experiences while building their vocabulary and social skills through cooperation and community play.
Reading/Library Center
Teachers guide children to a love of reading and comprehension by presenting interactive books and encouraging children to ask and answer questions about what they are reading and learning. Exposure and deliberate teaching of letters as well as opportunities to write at the center build children's pre-writing and pre-reading skills.
Specialty Classes
In addition to our centers, purposefully designed specialty classes such as Spanish, Tumble Bus, Joy of Music, Art, Science, and Bible reinforce and enrich the concepts and lessons taught in the classroom. Bi-weekly visits to CRISTA Assisted Living and King's Elementary Library provide children the opportunity to learn from intergenerational experiences.
Outdoor Play
Regularly scheduled times for outdoor play allow children to engage in a variety of large motor activities. Children can take risks, play cooperative games, breathe in fresh air, and exercise their hearts and minds. On rainy days we have the added blessing of having a large indoor gym where children can continue to move their muscles and get much needed daily physical exercise for their growing bodies.
Spiritual Life
Above all else, King's Children's Center provides early exposure to Jesus and the Bible. Every aspect of our curriculum and daily instruction encourages children in love, respect, and kindness to one another. Our goal is to plant a seed of truth and love for the Lord and His creation.
Thank you for taking the time to learn about our program.
We are proud to be a part of King's Schools and the tradition of academic excellence and commitment and faith in Christ.
